T he ability to estimate is an important practical numeracy skill.

Take a bus or train journey and explain to your child how to read the bus or train route map.

Next show them the timetable schedule and how you extract the information you need.

The next chance you get ask your child to plan the journey for themselves. Tell them you're should they need any help.

You'll be teaching your child some valuable numeracy skills of interpreting table and map information.
