The best way to secure a bright future for your child is through learning and education. Your child's early years are crucial to their learning.
Most parents are unaware of many fun learning opportunities, tips and tricks that can transform their children into excellent learners.
If you have a child aged under 12, you can use our strategies to help them -
It won't feel like work, we'll show your how to achieve this through fun playful activities you do together at home.
Becoming dependent on a home tutor, or parent, for success has real disadvantages. At some point your child will have to work by themselves and this when problems can occur. A 'self sufficient learner' has strategies they use to help themselves master new skills, they are less dependant on others. That's why learning 'how to learn' is one of our main goals for your child.
There is something very important all parents should be aware of, something teachers know from classroom experience and research has proved.
A UNESCO report on 'Parents and Learning' puts it like this -
"Children do best in school when
parents provide learning experiences
as a regular part of family life"
We talk to parents a lot. We found that something was going wrong with this vital link in our children's learning. Many parents were trying to help their children but with limited success... some didn't know where to start, many had given up after several failed attempts.
However some parents clearly were succeeding - what were they doing and why were their children were doing so well ?
We also collected strategies used in schools by experienced teachers that were suitable for parents to use at home.
The smart thing to do is to use a guide,
this makes the journey a lot easier
and saves you the trouble of getting lost.
Let us be your guide to help your child succeed in learning
and help you avoid common pitfalls.
Each step describes fun 'hands-on' activities and games you do together. You progress step by step at your child's pace, using just a few minutes each day. Your child's skill levels will steadily improve.
Too good to be true? Well, you do need to make your child's learning a family priority but if you can do that for your child they will make real progress.
Our Learning Tracks are designed so you don't need to be great at Numeracy or Literacy to help your child, we'll show you exactly what to do.
Firstly, we show you how to introduce numbers with 'hands-on' counting, using objects, touch, movement, speech and games to help create a deep understanding.
Children learn best when they play, sadly parents often neglect this very powerful learning strategy. We tell you about the best toys that encourage confident numeracy skills.
Next, we show how to use objects to explain 'adding' and 'taking-away'. Then we build on this, again using objects, to show how 'multiplication' is simply repeated addition and how 'division' is simply sharing. Your child will 'see' what multiplications looks like using objects, so when they learn the times tables (we have more tips for this!) they'll understand why they are learning them.
The secret to good mental maths is knowing some simple 'tricks' that change harder sums into easier ones. Parents often don't know these tricks or how to help their children with them. We list the tricks for you and give the best ways to explain them to your child.
Here's a simple example... adding 9 is often difficult for young children, however once you've shown them that adding 9 is the same as adding 10 and then taking 1 away, it's not a problem for them anymore! We've developed a list of these useful tricks to help your child master mental maths. We've even developed a great tool, called the Mental Maths eTutor, for them to learn each trick and practice using them.
Importantly, we also tell you about many active games (not computer based) to play that will help them practice their skills and have fun at the same time.
These are some of the skills we cover that build up to 'mental maths'.
Our approach to Literacy is based on the same progressive, fun and practical approach.
The huge advantage parental support has over school is that parents can easily give their children opportunities to learn through play.
We've worked out ways you can help your child learn the Numeracy and Literacy skills they need through play and fun activities.
Learning through play has some natural advantages - it builds enthusiasm, social skills, concentration, discovery, understanding and confidence.
Play is also the perfect way to get essential practice in new skills.
Lastly, another major advantage of learning through play is that it avoids stress and a smile is never far away!
We have mapped out fun activities covering the National Curriculum for Numeracy and Literacy.
They don't require expensive props and with our Learning Tracks you certainly don't need to be a teacher (or a tutor) to help your child.
If they can afford the expense, they may pay for private tuition to improve their child's Numeracy and Literacy skill levels so they can obtain a high enough score to get into the school of their choice.
Making learning a priority so late on is a big gamble - there may not be enough time to make the necessary improvements. It's also hugely stressful on the young child and parents. Rushed learning is less effective for building skills for the long term, it will not be enjoyable for the child - this won't build enthusiasm for future learning, and it's also very expensive.
This is our approach...
Make your child's learning a high family priority early on using our Learning Tracks to guide what you do with your child. Progress at your child's pace - only moving to the next step once they are confident with the last.
This ensures a steady progress so your child won't fall behind.
You will also build enthusiasm, concentration, memory, understanding and confidence.
For specific tests, use our TestBuster Guides to focus on the tests skills, including our TestBuster Essential Test Technique Guide.
Learning is as natural an activity as eating or drinking. Think of all the complex skills your child has mastered such as walking and talking.
As their parent you have the unique opportunity to guide your child's learning 'instinct' to master Numeracy and Literacy skills.
When you think about it, it makes a lot of sense... by making learning an fun normal part of your child's home life, naturally they will become better learners.
We go beyond the National Curriculum to show you how to nurture these key qualities in your child that will give them a positive learning attitude for life -
We encourage use of their learning in practical day-to-day activities.
We've spoken to a lot of people about childrens' learning. It took four years of talking to parents and teachers to build our Learning Tracks.
We've heard some amazing success stories from parents who have helped their children succeed and how the did it. We've included the best strategies in our Learning Tracks.
We also heard from some parents how their attempts to support their children's learning failed. All too often, it was because it would turn into a battle between parent and child. Please read our article on 'Practical Discipline Strategies That Work' (click here).
