Numeracy Opposites: Multiplication and Division

W e don't always need to know the exact value of a measurement or an amount.

Earier we saw the the opposite of 'addition' is 'substraction'. Now we look at multiplication and division.

Remember that multiplication is repeated adding and division is repeated substraction.

3 x 4 = 12 (4 lots of 3 is 12)

12 / 3 = 4 (3 goes into 12, 4 times)

2 x 3 = 6

6 / 3 = 2

We get back to 2. 'multiplication' is the opposite of division.
