The Best Way to Correct Your Child's Mistakes

Don't Be Negative, Be Positive

Your child will naturally make mistakes when they begin talking.

Avoid critisising your child's mistakes in their speech, in an attempt to help them improve faster.

The best way to help your child with their speech is to encourage their enthusiasm to speak more.

A really good way to do this is simply to repeat what they said in an appreciative way, but with the correction.

For example, supposing your child said "Mummy come home now!", you respond by showing them that you value what they say, and saying something like "Oh, yes you are right! Mummy has come home now!"

Your child may well respond by naturally correcting themselves, "Yes, Mummy has come home now."

This is a really important way you can help your child master language. Simlply the more effort you put in, the more faster and more sophisicated their language will become.
