W hen your first child goes to school it can be a very daunting experience for you and your child.

Ensure you do what you can to make the transition as easy as possible.

Make sure your child gets a good amount of sleep each night.

Without enough sleep your child wont cope as well as they could do at school the next day. They will be more difficult to look after, wont concenrate well, the'll be upset more often, fall over more and their memory wont be at it's best.

Ensuring your child has the right amount of sleep will have a dramatic effect on your child's learning.

Pick up from school - depending on the school policy and your child, your child might not stay the length of the day if their teacher thinks that they are too tired.

Occasionally your child might need to be picked up early from school if they are feeling poorly. Always make sure the school has your current mobile number and that you check it through the day.

It will help your child, you and your teacher to keep in mind the difficulties faced by your child's teacher. They could have thrity children to look after, if reality it is not always physically possible to watch each chile for every minute of the day, so expecting them to notice every incident is unrealistic. However should your child tell you something that raised your concern then make an appointment to see your child teacher and explain your worries. Monitor the situation as best you can, maintaining a dialog with your child's teacher.
