Next time you read to your child, take the time to point out the key parts of the book such as; the front cover; the title, author, the picture, explain that the front of the book has to catch your eye in the library or bookshop.

Next explain the layout of a page; the pages must be in order, each page has a page number. How many pages does the book have ?
Indicate that books have a start and an end.
Help Your Child Make Their Own Book
Young children get an enourmous sense of pride when they make things themselves. After completing this activity they will feel more connected to books... after all they have made their own!
The book you will make will be postcard sized.
For the front cover, use the FREE EasyStreetLearning Custom Card to create a front page from one of your digital photos stored on your computer. Choose a title and add your child's name as the author.
You can also use a FREE EasyStreetLearning Custom Card for the back cover.
Here is a template for pages the book.
Your child could put anything they like in the book, such as drawings or writing attempts. Alternatively, you could make a photo album with pages being made up of more FREE EasyStreetLearning Custom Cards.
When you have the pages ready you can staple them together as shown below.
