Your Baby and TV Watching

How to Use Your TV to Stimulate Your Babies Development

Y ou can use your TV to encourage your baby's development.

The key is to watch with your child when possible and to talk to them about what they see.

Try and limit the amount of time your child watches TV, to just a few of their favourite programs.

Avoid using the TV as somewhere to park your baby for very long periods of time. This is because TV is all one way, and does won't encourage valuable interaction.

A DVD of recorded nursery rhymes can be great fun for you and your baby.

It's a good way for you to become familiar with some rhymes which from a book won't give you the tune. Also a good DVD of rhymes will have lots of children and actions.

Even when your baby is too young to join in, if you sing along, they will find it much more exciting and they will be learning a lot.

Chances are that you might feel a bit silly when you first have a go, but that will pass as you begin to have fun with your child. Remember, as usual, the more animated you are the more your child will get out of the experience.
