Help Tame Toddler Tantrums with These Words

Words That we Wish Toddlers Understood

A s parents of toddlers we often hope for a level of behaviour, which is not always met.

We asked parents to give us a a list of words that would help them if their child knew what they meant.

This is the list they came up with...

Patience

Kind

Selfish

Consideration

Tired

Good / Bad Behaviour

Calm

Danger

We then asked how many parents had explained to their children what these words meant... Perhaps a little surprising, we found was that none had. Most parents thought that their children were not capable for understanding the meaning of these words, so we decided to work out staregies that would help.

Using Simple Stories

Previous generations used stories and rhyme to pass on morals to children. Nowadays, this practice appears to have been lost.

Our idea was to use stories to help our children understand the list of words our parents had come up with.

The idea is that these stories can be used at bedtime, outside of any incidenct, so the children woul dhave time to get to grips with the meaning of the words.

We also noted that young children love to hear their names in stories, so we did just that.
