Fun with "Grouping and Sorting"

C ontinue counting out items to your young child,

The process of grouping and sorting is a great learning activity for children and which they can enjoy.

How about next time you go to a park doing some grouping and sorting with your child ?

Leaves come in a huge range of shapes, colours and sizes. Together with your child collect a range of them and compare them.

Encourage your child to describe their shape, colour and size, help them by decribing them yourself to start with. Help your child group sort them based on different criteria such as size, shape and colour.

This is also a good counting opportunity, which type of leaf is there the most of in your collection ?

Examples of games you can play are -

"Who can find the biggest leaf ?"
"Who can find the most different types of leaves ?"
"Who can find the leaf with the most number of different colours on it ?"

Once again we've proved learning does not have to be at a desk !

You can also create some art with the leaves you collected by sticking them with glue to some paper.

KEYPOINT: Did you ever put a leaf in a book to dry out and look back at it much later ? Try it out with your child. Learning Key Point
