T
here are lots of words which are connected to numbers.
Here we ensure your child has a good understanding of the basic ones.
Their meaning follows on from counting and helps start your child to 'understand' numbers better. Encourage your child to use them. A great way to do this is by making a point to use the words yourself when you talk to them.
Introduce the following basic words and concepts -
Bigger and Smaller
More than, Less than
Same as / Equal to
Explain that ‘equal to’ means the same as ‘same as’.
An example of an activity that would allow you to easily talk about these words could be to ask your child to arrange their toy cars or dolls in order of size. Show them what you mean by example. This activity allows you to easily talk about which ones are bigger and smaller, and same size as others.
Other ideas to talk about these words could be the size of cake slice they get, who has the most chips at dinner, etc.
By introducing these words to your child, you'll give them a chance to use the words in other situations themselves.
Why not try out your own ideas or activities to talk about these words ?
